Term 3 Writing Evaluation

My Writing Evaluation for Term 3.

What writing Level are you at? Level 5
What level should you be at? Level 4
What goals have you achieved this term? -Be used as a proof reading expert- I achieved this because I became one of the writing mentors, to look over other children's writing in the school.
- review my writing to ensure that it meets its purpose.
use a range of strategies for editing and proof-reading my text to check meaning, accuracy, legibility- I think i have achieved this because I have gotten better at proof-reading my writing, but also editing my writing as I write.
What goals do you want to try and achieve next term?I want to try and achieve all of level 5, so some of the goals are...use vocabulary that includes subject –specific and/or technical terms.- I need to use more advanced vocabulary, so use vocabulary.com more often to help!
And I also want to achieve- use my writing to explain concepts, processes, theories, beliefs and opinions relevant to my purpose across the curriculum.

Art

This term we focused on Lino Prints. Here is my self assessment, and also a photo of my finished product!

Investigate and discuss printmaking processes.

To research artists and complete an artist study to enhance understanding of printmaking.  (Art Analysis)

Use line to create shapes and convey tone on their images.

Use tone to show light in portrait drawings and polystyrene prints and lino prints.

Use the printing process to produce a clear print.

To learn how to use printing tools.

Understand the importance of line, contours and texture to create a successful print.

Summary of my Lino Print
Making the Lino Print was harder than I expected it to be! I learnt how to use the Lino Cutters properly, (All though I did cut myself once, the very first time...!) I learnt how to properly cut the lino, using different strokes to give shape. While cutting my portrait out, I made sure that I left places un-cut around my face, to show positive and negative areas. If I were to do another Lino Print again,I would cut my hair out better, using a smaller blade, and add more finer strokes to better show which way my hair goes.  I would also try and leave the frame of my print clean, because it has ink all over it.

Speechs and Arts festival.

Tuesday Night was the Hauraki Plain's Speech Finals! Oscar and I represented Ngatea for the Seniors, and Zoe and Tom for the juniors. There were 24 speeches, and lots of them were really interesting! I was nervous to present mine, but once I got into it, I was fine!! Tom came third for his division, Oscar came third for ours, and I came first! 2 years in a row, I am so proud! Everyone said that they loved my speech and it was very entertaining! I won a certificate and a $30 book voucher to Carsons.
I also had to say my speech at the NPS Art's Festival last night, and I performed in Jazz Band, Choir, and Luke.D and I hosted the evening. It was a really good night, Only a few things didn't go to plan, but I think everyone enjoyed it!
It has been a very busy week- I also found out that I came 3rd in the NIE Poetry competition, throughout the whole of New Zealand!!! For my Poem "The Face of Confusion!"
Next week is the last week of school, Disco, Pet Day and my Birthday! Can't wait!

Impact Update

An update on my impact progress- Last week we filmed our very first cooking show, along with Rose Douglas! It was a great success, and we made some delicious pizza in the process! We started editing it yesterday, it is taking longer than we expected, and we are about half way through. I can't wait to see the finished product, so make sure you check out our blog- http://deliciousdiners.blogspot.co.nz  when it comes out!!

Speeches

On Thursday, I said my speech in front of Marama. My topic is "The Evolution of Language." It has the different 'Slang' language that each decade used commonly. My speech starts of with my generation, and how use use the word 'like' a lot and also text language. It then goes into the 90's, and also the 70's. I then go all the way back to the Shakespearean era! I am really proud of my speech, because it is informative, but also humorous! I made it into the Hauraki Plains speech finals, as well as Oscar!
Mr Fraser also got me to say my speech in front of the school at Assembly, which was nerve wracking, but I managed to get through it!!
I can't wait until the speech finals which is on Tuesday!

Paeroa to Thames Fun Run

On Sunday, I  participated in the Paeroa to Thames Run, for my school. There were loads of other primary and collage kids, and also a few adults. Our school entered 3 relay teams, a year 7&8 girls, a year 7&8 boys and a year 5&6 team. The total distance of the run was 30km, but we broke it up and did about 4-5 KM's each. Some adults ran the full 30km by themselves!
I ran about 4.5 k's, but it felt much longer! We ended up coming 4th out of all the primary schools, which is still pretty good!
It was a nice sunny day, and I had heaps of fun participating!

Daffidol Day

On Friday it was Daffidol day for our school. We all got dressed up in yellow, and enjoyed the sunny day outside with the 'Blokes' competing in different challenges. One was a stretcher challenge, where we had to make an able stretcher out of paper, tape and string that could carry some weight, through and obstacle course. Sophie and I raced our stretcher, even though we thought it would break! Our time was 19 seconds.
We also played the annual Staff VS Students Netball game! The students have only one once, in 2008. Since I am in Ngatea 1, my team played the staff. Us, the students, broke the tradition- we won the game, 16-5!
I am so proud of my Ngatea 1 team, and it was such a fun-filled day!

Young Achievers Award 2013

Mr Fraser nominated both Sophie.M and I for the 2013 'Young Achiever's award. Around 15 others from  the Hauraki District also got nominated. The award ceremony was held in the Waihi Town Hall on the 4th of September. We accepted our award from the Mayor! We got nominated because of all the presentations Sophie and I have done throughout the year, to various schools, principals and community. Also for showing general leadership through the school. It was such an awesome night!
