Waka Ama Huntly Trip

"7,8,9,hope! One more stroke and change!" Called Josh, our guide in the Waka. This was one of the activities we did with Huntly College on Thursday the 22nd of March. Ngatea Primary School had the awesome opportunity to travel up Huntly, and do some really fun activities with help from the Huntly College students.
We entered the college in the morning, and was welcomed in with a powhiri by the students. After their performance, we stood up and sang our sch0ol song "We Care." Next, we were split up into two groups, some stayed in the hall to learn the Maori songs, and others went down to the lake to do Waka Ama and mountain biking.
The Waka Ama was challenging, you had to have the strength of a professional weightlifter, and you had to keep in time with your teammates in order for the Waka to go fast. For the mountain biking, we had to ride around the lake, then do a challenge where you had ride around poles and up a small hill, to get the fastest time.
After a lunch of sausages & bread, the groups switched. This time our group was split into to; the boys learnt the Haka, and the girls learnt the Maori song and poi actions. The song was made up the night before to the tune of "Price Tag" by Jessie J. Most of us found the poi action hard, but the song, even though it was in Maori, it was surprisingly easy to learn.

At the end of the day, we had to perform what we had learnt from the Maori songs and the Haka.
We said goodbye to Huntly College at about 2:30 and then we left.
All of us had a lot of fun, and learnt heaps! It was a fantastic day that we will remember forever!

Mileage book reflection.

I have finished Tum Tum and Nutmeg and the Pirates Treasure. In the end, they manage to escape by tricking the rats to eat the chocolate with lots of alcohol in it that Lucy and Arthur send them- it gets them really drunk and they escape.

Week 8 reflection

This week I enjoyed going to Huntly and doing the Waka Ama, it was really fun because I have never done it before, and I learnt heaps! Next week is camp, and I am really looking forward to it because it will be my first New Zealand camp! I'm really excited about doing the high ropes course.

week 7 weekly reflection

This week I enjoyed drama, where one person was the host of the party, and the rest were guests, with different colored hats, each hat represents how they act, I was the red hat, which meant I always acted with feelings and emotions.

This week, I enjoyed starting my artwork, on symbols that represent us. Some of my symbols were New Zealand signs, things that I like, like netball and reading.

week 5 weekly reflection

I enjoyed metal at Tech because we started to make tool boxes, we had to design them, then we had to measure out the sheet of aluminium. I also really enjoyed Tech because Mr Chivers is really funny!
